In 2005, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) with a double major in marketing and accounting from the University of Manitoba. I found the strategic thinking of marketing married very well with the grounding and rational systems of accounting, forming an uncommon but very useful mix. Post-graduation I moved to Victoria and found employment with Trenholme & Company, where I successfully researched, planned and implemented a conversion to a paperless office while completing my Chartered Accountant designation. I then returned to Winnipeg where I was hired as a Manager, and then Senior Manager, at Booke & Partners. Along with the traditional duties of public practice, I made priorities of converting the office to paperless techniques and training peers and new hires. In both conversions, my proudest moments were when we could eliminate the file rooms and convert the square footage into revenue generating space.
I have always felt that knowledge is meant to be shared and that strong engagement amongst the community, employers, staff and management makes everybody stronger. Training staff and clients and engaging in continuous learning have been very important to me throughout my career. I have been able to expand this practice to the community by mentoring new businesses at Futurpreneur, participating in Ramp Up Weekends as an advisor and teaching courses at Entrepreneurship Manitoba. As a business I love to focus on helping my clients, be they personal tax, owner managed businesses or non-profits, to save money, make money, and make better decisions.
